The corridor is arranged on the edge of Cannock Chase, about 5.8 miles east of Stafford and 4.7 miles from Rugeley. The bequest was possessed by the Bishops of Lichfield until the Dissolution of the Monasteries, whereupon it went through a few hands prior to being bought in 1624 by William Anson, a neighbourhood legal counsellor and predecessor of the Earls of Lichfield.
